ABOUT US / NOSOTROS
El Parpadeo is a Colombian production company focused on making film and video art.
The company is a collaborative adventure by Emma Rozanski and Gonzalo Escobar Mora. We both write, direct and produce – among other things. We met in 2013 in Sarajevo, BiH, where we both attended Béla Tarr’s film.factory. We work alone and with collaborators.
We believe that cooperatives and collaborative partnerships are the most enjoyable, supportive, sustainable and fun way to make things. We strive for creative environments of mutual respect, experimentation and learning. We aim to create lasting works that tickle your curiosity, prod your sense of empathy, and play with your expectations.
We have a creative side and a practical side:
- Our creative side does: film – art – animation – writing – production design – script consulting
- Our practical side does: fixing – logistics & planning – location scouting – crewing your production
EMMA ROZANSKI
Emma was born in Australia and now lives in Colombia. She is a filmmaker and artist with an MFA in film directing from the Sarajevo Film.Factory – studying there under acclaimed Hungarian filmmaker Béla Tarr.
PAPAGAJKA (The Parrot) was her debut feature-length narrative film, which premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival [SXSW]. Her 2nd feature-length narrative film was completed in 2024 and premiered at Festival Internacional de Cine de Cartagena de Indias (FICCI) & Mostra Internacional de Cinema São Paulo. Emma has created a wide variety of moving image works and they have been shown in many and various festivals, museums and exhibitions globally. She is an alumnus of the Torino Film Lab, Berlinale Talents, the Berlinale Short Film Station and the Reykjavík Talent Lab.
GONZALO ESCOBAR MORA
Gonzalo Escobar Mora is an artist who wants to be filmmaker, and a filmmaker who wants to be an artist. He loves this confusion. Gonzalo received a Master of Arts in Film Directing from the Sarajevo Film Academy and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work encompasses short films, installations, video art, documentaries, film essay, animations, and more.
He questions formal definitions and narrative structures, exploring intersections between the personal and the political. He has worked on a variety of projects throughout Latin America, Europe, and the United States. As a citizen of the world, he continues exploring and stretching the aforementioned confusion.
LOUISE MCELHATTON
It is rumoured that Louise McElhatton is the producing Alias of Emma Rozanski. We will neither conform nor deny this. Whether she is her own person or a person within Emma’s mind, she is nonetheless a film producer. She is based between the UK, USA & Australia. Louise is inspired by filmmakers who create strange and meaningful film worlds, and stories to provoke contemplation and questions about the moral ambiguities of humanity. She aspires to support rebellious filmmakers with strong voices and mystifying work, who might otherwise find it challenging to get their films made. [IMDB]
